CC4G is benefiting the Welsh economy by:
- Contributing to Welsh Assembly Policy Drivers as set out in the "Learning Country", the "Skills and Employment Action Plan for Wales" and the e-skills UK Sector Skills Agreement
- Encouraging girls to gain competencies in IT in order that they can aspire to gain higher skills and thereby avoid the impact of low-skilled job losses, while improving the prospects of Welsh business in moving up the value chain
- Attracting new entrants to the IT industry, which is set to grow at 5-8 times the UK average during the next decade. Wales will require 5,000 new entrants per year
CC4G has been piloted in Wales with the support of the Welsh Assembly Government. Barbara Morris of the Assembly Government's Department of Education Lifelong Learning and Skills says:
"The evaluation of the pilot CC4G programme showed that it had a really positive impact in terms of improving the image of the sector and increasing the confidence and skills of girls in using IT. The programme has the potential to play a vital role in our efforts to tackle gender imbalance in occupations and sectors in Wales."
Employers can provide valuable support to CC4G in a variety of ways.
e-skills UK has been working closely with employers keen to sponsor schools to run CC4G.
