Students of Thomas's Battersea are actively involved with supporting a pensioners’ lunch club at a local community centre. When the centre needed more funds the students decided to use ICT to help raise awareness of the issue among potential new supporters. Using the school’s technology resources the students filmed, edited and produced a DVD of the centre’s work. The DVD was shown to parents, the local authority and other local interest groups.
Christopher Smith, Director of Technology, e-Learning and Learning Resources, Thomas's Battersea said:
"This project was a very motivating and rewarding experience for the students. They wrote, presented and produced the DVD themselves and managed to raise substantial additional funds for the community centre. The project also gave the students a chance to develop their technical, writing and communication skills as well as boosting their self-confidence. Such life skills will stand them in good stead in their future lives."
