St Mary of the Angels R.C. Primary School, London: Rapping to save the environment!
Students at St Mary of the Angels R.C. Primary School created a website all about saving the environment.
A student campaign to save energy included student-designed and laminated captions which were placed by every computer saying 'shut me down to save a pound,' and 'turn me off' captions placed by every light switch.
All of the student’s activities to recycle in the school and photographs of their events were placed on the school website. A video of year 5 students performing their own rap about saving water has also been uploaded onto the site.
The students also created competitions and puzzles to raise awareness within the local community about the many ways individuals can help save the environment.
St Mary of the Angels’ entry noted:
“By creating exciting websites, radio podcasts, interactive games and video animations in addition to videos of raps, songs and visits from important people, this makes the topic of something such as recycling and saving water far more exciting and accessible to both children and adults alike.”
