South West, Penpol Primary School: Students rise to the challenge and get fit!
Students at Penpol School wanted to campaign get their school active and encourage students and parents to take up sports.
A Flash Macromedia package provided students with the flexibility and creative tools to communicate the benefits of sport to other students in a totally unique way.
The programme allowed all students to participate. Students did not have to be good at drawing or sport – all they needed was access to a computer. The resulting animations were so simple and effective that everyone could understand and enjoy the images.
The animations were first shown in assemblies at Penpol Primary School. Due to the fantastic response from the school community, Penpol sent the film to Sport Relief who also loved the animations and featured them on their website.
Paul Hodson, Head Teacher at Penpol said:
“To support the effort we have encouraged lots of after school sports this year so that our 300 pupils had a huge range to choose from. We worked with the police to start rugby training and this has snowballed.
On Monday evenings up to seven off duty policemen and women have been coming in to train over 120 children over two terms. Children who would never have dreamed of taking up sports have loved this.”
